Day 4 of #21DayAssKicking: A "Barre Ride" is No...
If you’re wondering what this is all about, flip back to my intro post first.
Yeah, so here’s how a “Barre Ride” goes down…
I signed up for an introduction month at Revolve in Clarendon to throw something different into the mix for the next few weeks. Revolve is an “indoor cycling studio” so when I reserved space for my first class I didn’t think to...

Day 3 of #21DayAssKicking
If you’re wondering what this is all about, flip back to my intro post first.
Back to Bootcamp this morning…at 6AM. This time the cardio drills (after every 4th station) included boxing gloves and a heavy bag - two of my favorite things :) That said, nothing’s too appealing at the crack of dawn.
We boxed the heavy bag, we lunged with a 40 lb. vest on, we did step up’s...

I've Overtrained, I Think
Tough lesson learned this week as I attempted to get back up on the treadmill for a short run ‘post’ achilles pain. Seems it’s not all that post. It felt fine walking but on mile three of my run I had to stop and limp back to my apartment. I chatted with @GrantHillFit about it and he shared some of the most informative content around the subject via a post by Sock Doc (which you...

A Week of Limping: From Achilles Aches to Kick...
Last Sunday I ran 9 miles (per my training schedule) and felt some soreness in my achilles for the first time. I skipped boxing Monday to take a rest day and ran 4 miles Tuesday morning — much to my regret.
I spent the next three days limping around. Research and advice from more seasoned runners identified it as Achilles Tendonitis, something that can go on for days, weeks, or months…a...

Why I Share What I Share
I’ve been sharing my journey to health and fitness online for 15 months now and I’ve learned a little along the way. People are funny…here’s the three types of reactions I’ve come up against:
SUPPORTERS: The best crew ever. They ‘like’ your Nike+ posts on Facebook so you get cheers along your run, they add comments of support on progress pictures, and...

Vegetarianism Versus Bacon
After I finished reading Born To Run I made two bold statements:
I’m going to run a marathon this year; and
I’m going to try my hand at vegetarianism, at least a 30-day trial.
That 30 day trial was set to start today and as of now (um, day 1) I have survived. However I don’t intend to carry on. For the past week I’ve done some research on recipes, the better foods, and...

Doing Something is Better than Doing Nothing
This morning was a tough one. I awoke in very bad form (right before the alarm as usual) and got up without hesitation. This wasn’t a matter of arguing with myself to get up, I knew I was going to the gym but I also knew I was miserable about it. Not sure where that came from but as I went through the motions of getting ready I began to talk myself through the shortest possible...

The Perfect Paleo Margarita
Cinco do Mayo is looming and I’m trying to figure out how get my Margarita and Empanada on without suffering the aftermath of a calorie and carb overload. I found a great round-up of Paleo-safe recipes on this blog and especially love the Margarita recipe — the best part: 79 calories and 7g of carbs (which rocks the regular 250+ calorie count you’ll get served).
To serve one:
1/2...

Motivational Tips to Get Your Morning Workout Done
My friend Danielle inspired a quick post on self-motivation. You know that horrible inner monologue you face when the early alarm goes off. The battle you have with self over the pros and cons of getting up and getting it DONE. I used to lose that battle quite often, opting for an evening workout…and often being too wrecked at the end of the day to face it.
My current routine includes a...
